The Alachua County 4-H Envirothon team captured first place at the 2025 Florida Envirothon held at the Withlacoochee State Forest McKethan Lake Recreation Area in Brooksville on April 5.

The team, consisting of Henry Huynh, Will Mercado, Abigail Pruden, William Pruden, and Katie Ross, was coached by Amy and Jonathan Pruden. The Tardigrades of Alachua County 4-H will now represent Florida on July 20-26 at the NCF Envirothon to be held in Calgary, Alberta, at the Canada Mount Royal University.

According to a release, “the Envirothon is an environmental education competition, in which teams of high school students work collaboratively to develop their knowledge in five categories: Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soil & Land Use, Wildlife and this year’s Current Issue topic of Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change. To compete at the state level, teams must have won their regional competition.”
