The League of Women Voters presented Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Kim Barton with a certification of appreciation for her service in the 2022 election cycle.

“I am very grateful to receive this award from the League of Women Voters of Florida,” Barton said in a statement. “My entire office and our election workers should be very proud of the hard work and dedication they put forth last year. As we prepare for the 2024 Presidential Election cycle, we will continue to diligently serve Alachua County voters and residents.”

The League of Women Voters is a century-old nonprofit organization dedicated to voter registration and advocating for voting rights. The effort to recognize election supervisors began at the state level and went through local chapters, according to Janice Garry, president of the Alachua County League of Women Voters.

“Kim Barton, in her role as supervisor elections, and her staff, as our elections staff, are greatly appreciated by the League of Women Voters,” Garry said in an interview. “Our fundamental principles include protection of democracy and protection of every person’s right to vote. We very much appreciate the work they did in the last election cycle to ensure a fair and timely election process.”

Garry and Gwen Wagner, co-chair of the Voter Services Committee of the Alachua County League of Women Voters, presented Barton with the award Monday afternoon.
