The Gainesville Police Department has received reports of phone calls from individuals identifying themselves as Gainesville police officers/investigators.
These suspects are telling victims they received counterfeit bills from them and need the victims to purchase Green Dot cards to fix the problem. The suspects then request the Green Dot card information over the phone.
Please be vigilant and do not fall for this scam. No one from the Gainesville Police Department would ask our citizens to pay for anything over the phone. Do not share any personal information, especially payment information over the phone unless you are certain of who you are speaking to.
