​Alachua County Commissioner Ken Cornell was recently elected to the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Board of Directors on July 1 at the FAC’s Annual Conference and Educational Exhibit in Orange County, Florida.  

At that same event, Cornell also received a presidential appointment naming him vice chair of the FAC’s Federal Affairs Committee.

“I am honored that my colleagues from around the state have placed this trust in me by electing me to the Board,” Cornell said in a press release. “I am also excited about the Federal Affairs Committee appointment which will enable me to advocate for policies important to Floridians.”

While Cornell serves his two-year term on the FAC Board of Directors, he will represent the interests of Florida counties by overseeing the FAC’s efforts and initiatives.

“As an elected member of the board of directors, a commissioner must be committed to representing the local interests and be willing to speak up for their communities,” said FAC Executive Director Ginger Delegal in the release. “Ken has demonstrated these qualities and been carefully selected by fellow commissioners to take on this position. I am confident he will excel on the Board of Directors and lead with grace and skillfulness.”

The FAC is also governed by five executive officers; six county commissioners appointed at-large, with no more than three of the six from counties with a population of 75,000 or more; and the past presidents of FAC.
