The Archer City Commission agreed to send out 30-day notices to residents announcing rate increases for water and waste services.
Commissioner Joani White made a motion to increase water rates by 2.5 percent instead of the suggested 5 percent during the June 8th regular meeting.
White wanted to make sure citizens hit hard financially by the COVID-19 pandemic weren’t subjected the higher rate increase.
So White made the motion to compromise with a 2.5 increase which passed and goes into effect for the August billing cycle.
White said it was a difficult decision but, “The City of archer is a business and we’ve got to recoup our losses.”
According to Commissioner Fletcher Hope, the rates had not been raised since March of 2018.
The commission followed up with a 5 percent rate increase for residential solid waste rates also effective for the August billing cycle.
Residents will receive information in the next billing cycle giving notice of the increase for the August billing cycle.
