A Frazer School team took home the 2025 Florida Quiz Bowl State Championship on Saturday.
The competition was held at the University of Florida between 14 teams from 10 schools. The event consists of 10 games of buzzer-based questions on various academic topics, which include history, geography, literature, science and math.
The Frazer School’s A Team won the tournament with a 9-1 record, beating Montverde Academy (Montverde) and Darnell-Cookman A (Jacksonville, who both tied for second place with 8-2 records. The team consisted of Abhiram Pothuri (10th grade), Jaganesh Ramkrishnan (ninth grade), Eric Li (ninth grade) and Pida Dudas (eighth grade).
Two Frazer School Students placed in the top eight for individual scoring. They were Pothuri, who took fourth place with 65 points per game, and Jessica Wu, who finished in sixth place with 45 points per game.
Results for the state competition can be found on the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) website. NAQT writes questions for the Quiz Bowl tournaments at the middle school, high school and college levels and is the largest organization for academic competitions in the US. The NAQT will host a 320-team High School National Championship on May 24-25 in Atlanta. Eight teams from Florida are registered for Nationals, including two from Frazer School.
“It’s great to see students coming from across Florida to test their knowledge in a competitive setting,” Frazer School Quiz Bowl coach David Geering said. “I applaud UF’s Quiz Bowl club for organizing the state championship. Our A Team performed well, especially considering two of our best players, Vijay and Westin, were in other competitions. There is a lot of young talent both at Frazer and in other Florida schools, I hope we see more of these academic competitions going forward.”
