Santa Fe College announced Thursday the retirement of Chuck Clemons and the launch of a nationwide search for its next vice president for advancement.

“Under his leadership, the college expanded scholarship opportunities,” a Santa Fe press release said, noting its foundation now awards more than $1.6 million in student scholarships annually. “VP Clemons was instrumental in raising funds and support to help support several capital projects and expand a multitude of educational and academic opportunities to citizens throughout the service district.”

Santa Fe has retained the consulting firm AGB Search to conduct the search for its next fundraising leader. It’s the same firm that led the searches that led to Santa Fe’s hiring of President Paul Broadie and Provost Nate Southerland.

In a text message, Clemons said his last day is currently scheduled for Jan. 15, 2025.

“The past 16 years have been the most joy-filled mission in my career,” Clemons said. “This opportunity enabled me to raise both money and awareness for Santa Fe College and our students.”

Clemons said Santa Fe has students from all 67 Florida counties, 38 states and 90 foreign countries, and he’s seen the endowment grow from $30 million to $114 million.

“My fondest memories are of the students who come back and bring their children,” Clemons said. “It has been rewarding.”

Since 2016, Clemons, a Republican from Newberry, has also held elected office as a state representative in the Florida Legislature. He is not eligible to run again due to term limits, so he is scheduled to retire from the Legislature in November.
