I was born and raised in the US Air Force in the mid 50s. When I was 7, we were transferred back into the USA. I was astonished about this idea of segregation and that it was just starting to be fixed. It still seems like something out of a nightmare, that people actually based decisions on the color of someone’s skin. Growing up around so many different cultures and types of people, it didn’t seem to have any place in real life.
I’ve never been able to understand how people could be taught something like that, even though I’ve seen so much of it.
It still has a long way to go, but at least we’re headed there. And mostly together.
