A woman shot at the Easter event at TB McPherson Park died on Friday.

According to a Chestnut Funeral Home post on social media, 20-year-old Ontaria Baisden, one of three people shot on April 20 at an Easter egg hunt, succumbed to her injuries.

The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. on April 20 when a Black man wearing red shorts and a gray hoodie shot three people at the event where more than 1,000 people gathered.

Baisden was in critical condition following the shooting and the other two victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Gainesville leaders discussed the shooting at a General Policy Committee meeting on Thursday, intending to tighten the permit policy that allowed the Easter egg hunt to happen.

At the meeting, GPD Chief Nelson Moya said police are pursuing leads and hope to bring a resolution to the case.

In recent years, the city has cracked down on events at TB McPherson Park, located at 1717 SE 15th St., by stopping the Peaceful Sunday event due to improper park usage.
