A vehicle fleeing a traffic stop Tuesday night on NE Waldo Road struck a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) patrol car and injured an officer.

According to GPD spokesperson Brandon Hatzel, the incident occurred at 1200 NE Waldo Rd. around 11 p.m.

“At this time, we believe the suspect’s vehicle pulled out of a Walmart and crossed into the opposite lane of travel, striking the driver’s side of the patrol car,” said Hatzel in an email.

The officer had to be extricated from the vehicle, which sustained extensive damage, and he was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was released after receiving treatment for his injuries.
