LCPD responds to stabbing, shooting

Lake City police officers arrested one man in a stabbing and are searching for another suspect involved in a drive-by shooting in two separate incidents that occurred on Tuesday night.

According to Lake City Police Department (LCPD) releases, officers responded to SE Church Avenue at 10:54 p.m. where they found one person with multiple stab wounds in their upper body. Emergency responders took the victim to a trauma center.

Officers determined a physical altercation took place between two subjects and, based on witness statements, identified and arrested Johnathan Wyndell “Dale” Smith, 54, of Lake City, as the alleged suspect. Smith is charged with aggravated battery and was transported to the Columbia County Detention Center.

LCPD was also dispatched at 10:58 p.m. to SE Colburn Avenue to the report of a person shot. Officers located a victim with a gunshot wound to their upper body and emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital. 

Officers talked to a witness who was with the victim at the time of the shooting who said they saw headlights coming toward them and heard gunshots fired. Both the witness and victim started running when they noticed blood on the victim, the witness called 911.
