A Lake City man was arrested on Sunday after he failed to yield the right of way and collided with a police officer at the intersection of W. Duval Street and SW McFarlane Ave. early Sunday morning.

According to a Lake City Police Department (LCPD) release, Reginald Dewayne McCallum, 37, allegedly failed to yield the right of way as he attempted to make a left turn from westbound on W. Duval Street onto southbound SW McFarlane Ave. McCallum collided with an LCPD officer and then fled the scene on foot.

Emergency responders transported the LCPD officer to a hospital for minor injuries and was later released.

A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputy, who witnessed the crash, apprehended McCallum, who was charged with hit and run, resisting officer without violence, violation of probation and leaving the scene of a crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
