
A Lake Butler man who shot three people, killing one and injuring the other two, was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison.
According to a State Attorney’s Office press release, Judge Mitchell Bishop sentenced Anthony Lydell George, to life in prison for killing Hope William Jr., 35, of Lake Butler.
The incident occurred on March 19, 2022, when Union County Sheriff’s Officers responded to shots fired in the area of SW 1st Terrace in Lake Butler. Detectives identified George as the suspect in William’s death and the shooting of Latasha Holton and Marquha Mabery.
George fled the scene, leading to a manhunt. A U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force captured George in Gainesville on March 28, 2022.
According to the release, Bishop sentenced George “to life for first-degree murder, 25 years for attempted murder, 20 years for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and three years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.”
