A local Uber driver was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a sexual battery incident that occurred on Sept. 28.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, detectives arrested Julio Schlaefi, 50.

The victim was reportedly in the front passenger seat of Schlaefli’s vehicle that was leaving the downtown Gainesville area early in the morning when the sexual battery occurred.

Schlaefli is being held at the Alachua County Jail.

Schlaefli has been an Uber driver in the Gainesville area for approximately three years and GPD detectives believe there are additional victims who may have experienced similar incidents with the suspect.
