A former Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper from Bell was found guilty on Thursday for possession of short-barreled rifles not registered to him.
According to a Northern District of Florida U.S. Attorney’s Office press release, Jesse Rance Moore, 47, of Bell was found guilty by a federal jury when the rifles he possessed were not registered in the National Firearm Registration and Transfer Record.
Moore, who was employed by FHP from Jan. 13, 2003, to Feb. 27, 2017, was sentenced to 21 years in federal prison in January for robbing multiple pharmacies in 2021.
FBI Jacksonville was investigating Moore for the string of pharmacy robberies and a search warrant was obtained and executed at Moore’s residence in Gilchrist County. While searching for evidence related to the pharmacy robberies, law enforcement found numerous boxes of ammunition, firearms and firearm accessories throughout the property, along with three short-barreled rifles (barrels less than 16 inches) that were not registered.
Moore will be sentenced on Jan. 7, 2025, at the U.S. Courthouse in Gainesville before Judge Allen Winsor. Moore is already serving his 21-year prison sentence out of the Middle District of Florida for the pharmacy robberies, and he faces up to 10 additional years in prison, three years of supervised release and a $10,000 fine.
