The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrested Darris Moore of Lake City on Monday in connection with a shooting incident that led to the lockdown of Lake City Middle School on Feb. 14.
In a CCSO release sent on Wednesday, the Feb. 14 incident occurred around 100 yards from Lake City Middle School and resulted in a disruption to the school’s afternoon dismissal process.
CCSO deputies arrested Moore, 39, for shooting at another person following a dispute. Moore was identified with cooperation from various witnesses and the incident resulted in property damage from bullet holes, but no injuries were reported.
“I am extremely grateful no one was injured by this suspect’s reckless actions,” said CCSO Sheriff Mark Hunter said in the release. “We work hard to keep our community safe, and I am pleased with the actions taken by law enforcement to protect our school children that day, as well as the determination of our detectives to resolve this case so quickly. Solving this case highlights what can be accomplished when citizens and law enforcement work together.”
CCSO charged Moore with attempted murder, criminal mischief, and discharging a firearm in public. Moore was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility and has a $280,000 bond.
