
The average cost per gallon of gas went down two cents from last week in the Gainesville area.
According to Thursday’s weekly AAA gas report, prices fell from $3.20 last week to $3.18, while the average price per gallon in Florida increased from $3.12 to $3.13. The national price decreased slightly from $3.13 to $3.11.
“We are about halfway through winter, so there may be fewer seasonal spikes at the pump,” Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, said in a press release. “And on a personal note, this is my final gas update, as I am retiring. But fear not, the AAA Fuel Report will remain in capable hands.”
The latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows gasoline demand increased from 8.08 million barrels per day (b/d) last week to 8.30. The total domestic gasoline stocks also rose from 245.9 million barrels of crude oil (bbl) to 248.9, while gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.2 million barrels daily.
Thursday’s national average for a gallon of gas is $3.11 is nine cents more than last month’s $3.02. Last year, the price was $3.12.
Florida is the 14th-most expensive state in price per gallon at $3.13. Last month, gas was $3.06 per gallon and last year it was $3.20 statewide.
In the Gainesville area, last month’s price was $3.13 per gallon, and last year it was $3.22.
