McDonald’s Golden Arches could soon light up along US 441 in High Springs after the city’s Planning and Zoning Board voted 4-1 to approve the company’s site plan on Monday.

Planned for construction just south of Tractor Supply, Mcdonald’s still needs site plan approval from the High Springs City Commission, but the property is already zoned commercial to allow the fast-food business.

According to backup documents, McDonald’s will generate an estimated 1,730 total daily trips. The City Commission could vote on the item as early as March 27.

Just what this community needs…more bad and unhealthy foods, more discarded fast food litter on the roads.

Cindy Noel

Gross. Bad food, more single use plastics and garbage. Force them to use compostable packaging only – otherwise there will be even more litter along the roadways.

Food service establishments shouldn’t have to be “forced” to use compostable packaging – they should be “good citizens” of the community and stewards of the environment and voluntarily do so. That said, “forcing” them requires responsible elected officials with “backbones” to pass ordinances, regulations, etc. that mandate compostable packaging – followed by enforcement. Regretfully, most municipalities don’t have the appetite to do so. They’d rather just “kick the can down the road.”

O little town of Alachua, High Springs, your glory days are pretty much over, but we’ll always have the memories!!
Thanks, Suzann, for helping us appreciate what was, as it’s now in the process of no turning back.
Hey, at least your property values will increase 😂

Oh Goody! Then we can pay more property taxes! Hopefully they will be done away with, soon!

Michael Hines

You either let commercial businesses come in your community and help pay local taxes so homeowners don’t have to sell their homes because of raising taxes. Too many people are moving out of area because of 2nd highest property taxes in Florida. If you keep reelecting the same politicians, you’re gonna get the same results. Good honest people are not able to afford to live in the area because of rising taxes and increasing insurance rates.
