
Florida’s average price per gallon shot up eight cents per gallon since last Wednesday as people get ready to travel for the Fourth of July holiday.
According to the AAA’s website on Wednesday, the average price per gallon of gas increased from $3.44 over the past seven days to $3.52 statewide. In the Gainesville area, the cost went from $3.47 to $3.56. Nationally, the price trickled from $3.49 to $3.51.
The AAA has projected a record 60 million people will drive 50 miles or more during the holiday weekend.
Wednesday’s national average of $3.51 is two cents less than last month’s $3.53. Last year, the price was at $3.53.
Florida is the 17th most expensive state in price per gallon at $3.52. Last month, gas was $3.43 per gallon and last year it was $3.27 statewide.
In the Gainesville area, last month’s price was $3.48 per gallon, and last year it was $3.30.
