A Gainesville man died in a motorcycle accident with a pickup truck Wednesday evening in the city of Alachua.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. near intersection of Highway 441 and NW 163rd Lane, which is near I-75. The commercial area includes several businesses, including a Dairy Queen and KFC.
The brief FHP report indicated both drivers were traveling on 441, but it did not give any information about how the two collided. FHP said the crash is still under investigation.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 56-year-old woman from the city of Alachua, was uninjured in the incident. She was wearing a seatbelt, according to FHP.
It is a very dangerous area, with a large volume of traffic leaving and exiting numerous new businesses. Plus, vehicles enter and exit I-75. Speed is always an element in that mixture. With the additional new homes built in that area, you would do well to keep an ambulance parked at Campus Credit Union ready to roll.
