
Alachua County’s African American Accountability Alliance (4As) will host a series of three candidate forums this election season, starting on Sunday.
The forums will cover the primary election candidates, general election candidates and ballot initiatives. Following the forums, 4As will make endorsements.
Sunday’s forum will be at the Alachua County Library District Headquarters starting at noon and covering the primary election candidates.
The forum will start with the candidates for Gainesville City Commission followed by the Alachua County Commission District 1, Florida State House District 22, Alachua County School Board and the Alachua County Sheriff, which has a Democratic primary.
The general election forum will happen Sept. 15 from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 630 NW 2nd Street in Gainesville. The winners of the Democrat and Republican primaries will be invited.
The forum will include surrogates for the Republican and Democrat presidential candidates and invites sent to the Florida Senate and Congressional candidates. The forum will include local races for the state attorney, Alachua County Commission District 3, Florida State House District 9 and 22, Alachua County Supervisor of Elections and Alachua County Sheriff.
The ballot forum will also happen at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church on Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
The forum will include six statewide constitutional amendments along with Alachua County’s referendum to switch from single-member districts to at-large districts and Gainesville’s referendum to change management of Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) to the City Commission.
