Cynthia Chestnut Park shooting kills one

A male victim died on Sunday evening following a shooting at Cynthia Chestnut Park in Gainesville.

According to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) release, multiple deputies responded at 6:43 p.m. to 2315 SE 35th St. to the report of several gunshots fired in the parking lot at Cynthia Chestnut Park. One caller said a male victim appeared to be lying in the parking lot and was not moving.

Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, who had been shot several times. Emergency responders transported the victim to the UF Health Trauma Center where he was pronounced deceased.

ACSO detectives investigated the scene and reportedly canvased the area for potential witnesses or video evidence of the incident.
